How To Make An Inspiration Mood Board (with pictures!)

Hey you!

If you haven’t noticed yet, I am obsessed with mood boards. I love them. I have a whole page dedicated to them on my blog.

But, on the internet isn’t the only place I have them! I’m a very visual person, so I like having real-life mood boards, too.

I really like being able to look at something hanging in my room that inspires me. Something that reminds me of where I went, where I am now, and who I want to be.

Which is why I love boards like these. I get inspo for the boards from everywhere – but namely my own life, my pictures, friends, Pinterest, magazines, Instagram, Tumblr, and now VSCO too. Lots of social media help haha.

First, you’re going to need some supplies:

Second, figure out what kind of mood board you want to make: What colors? Do you want quotes or just pictures? Do you want one that’s a collection of your memories? One that motivates? One that’s just pretty to look at? One that inspires you of where you want to be?

When I was making mine, I knew I wanted something that when I looked at it, I just felt inspired to work towards my goals. I wanted quotes that meant something to me, pictures that were half mine and half I found on Pinterest/Tumblr, and the colors to match with this picture (because aesthetic):

Some Ideas for Your Board:

  1. Memories. Put all your movie tickets, train tickets, fortune cookie fortunes, travel memories, concert tickets, pictures with loved ones from concerts/travels/events, etc. all onto one place. Pin them all onto the board so you will always be able to look at it and remember good times with good people.
  2. Goals. Maybe you want to write a book, travel more, get in shape, anything. Whatever your goal is, go on Pinterest and Tumblr and find images that inspire you. It can be quotes, pictures of the location you want to travel to, your dream bod, stuff like that.
  3. Theme. This one is the fun category. Pick any theme like “summer” for example, and get a bunch of pictures that match that vibe. Lots of yellow, sunshine, happiness, shades of blue, fun, and food! All the pictures you’d collect would fit that vibe. Pictures like these:

And have fun with it! I totally nerd out and had way too much fun making this. I was sitting on my bed with my laptop, listening to my favorite songs, finding a bunch of pictures I love and putting them on a Word document to print out. Then I cut out all the the pictures, laid them all out, and just went crazy on the board.

I’m like lowkey/highkey obsessed with how it turned out!
