Good Morning Fellow Girlbosses Let’s Get This Bread

“Girlboss” is a term that I’ve been seeing more often, and lately I’ve been trying to embody what it means. I was struggling to find the best way to explain a girlboss for anyone who doesn’t know. So, I looked it up. I can always count on Urban Dictionary to keep me humble hahaha.

All roasts aside, I think trying to channel my inner girlboss is a good thing. To me, a “Girlboss” is a badass lady who has her sh*t together. She’s someone who chases at her goals with a plan, keeps herself organized, acts with love towards herself and others, and is hungry to be successful. She’s working towards being the best version of herself, and she doesn’t take anyone’s sh*t along the way. THAT to me is goals.

How Can You Be a Girlboss?

I asked myself the same question, and I answered it by asking myself a different question: What do I think it looks like to be a girl my age with her sh*t together? I thought about it, wrote it down in [amazon_textlink asin=’1977663273′ text=’my notebook’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’AKIAJUCN5NJUOY4TCVCA’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’fe8d7aaa-d78f-11e8-8084-e78bff35c67f’], then from there made a list of specific actions I could take to become more of a Girlboss. It’s so incredibly important to be specific when listing goals because otherwise the idea will just float around your head; it’ll never come to fruition unless you figure out a way to make it real.

What’s even better is Fall is a perfect time of the year to work on bettering yourself. Trees are literally dropping their dead weight to take care of themselves on the inside and regrow in a couple of months. Who’s to say we can’t do the same? I say out with the old and in with the new – new good habits, that is.

3 Girlboss Habits to Help You (& Me) Get Our Sh*t Together This Fall

1. Stay On Top of Your School Sh*t

Fall means a new school year and fresh chance to kill it academically. Part of being a Girlboss means being educated and getting good grades. You’re paying to go to college, might as well come out of it having learned a thing or two and with good grades to show that you truly learned. Now, we’re late into October, and the semester will be over in just about 6 weeks for most people. It’s around this time that you need to fight the feelings of wanting to skip class, to not study, to procrastinate, or to otherwise give in to the devil on your shoulder telling you to make the bad decision. In moments where you just want to be lazy or give up, allow yourself a few moments to feel what you’re feeling, and then challenge it. Challenge those self-indulgent thoughts by reminding yourself of your why. Dig deep, and hang on to your reason(s) to get you through the tough times.

2. Make Some of Your Own Money

If you don’t already have a job, I recommend you find one that suits you ASAP. It builds character to work and to earn your own money. I have had a job since the time I was sixteen (or maybe fifteen?) and it’s been extremely rewarding to have worked to pay for a lot on my own all these years. My first job ever was a seasonal position for Halloween at Party City where I helped pull costumes for those dressing up for the holiday. Since then, I’ve worked in restaurants, retail stores, call centers, and coffee shops. So, I recommend getting some type of work for yourself, whether that’s a part-time job somewhere, or something more… creative. Now I don’t work part-time anymore, but I make money a couple of different ways: I babysit, help with a family business, blog, and am working on making YouTube videos (coming soon! still working on not sounding awkward AF when I talk to the camera haha). Get creative, there are tons of ways to make money. Pick what works best for you.

3. Be Responsible With Your Money

Getting older, and also wanting to be a Girlbosss, means being responsible with your money. Everyone is different, and at this point in life, you may have more or less expenses than someone else your age. That’s totally okay, but that’s why there isn’t specific numbers I can give like “only spend X amount on eating out each month.” Instead, I can offer a more general approach which has worked for me.


With the money I earn, I always put a percentage away into my savings account.


I keep my receipts, and I’ve been using them to look back and see how much I’m spending on different things each month. It’s easy to not realize just how much you’re spending on food, coffee, clothes, etc. each month until you add it up and it hits you. This, at the very least, will ensure you’re aware of where your money goes.


and this is more specific to this time of year, but I’m already putting aside money that I’m going to spend on gifts for the holidays. I have a super bad habit of going ham on gifts and spending wayyy more than I budgeted. Ultimately, going over my budget just made me stress about money and really showed me I needed to have more discipline. So, I’m already thinking about who I’m getting gifts for and realistically thinking about what I want to spend on all of those gifts. That way I’m not screwed once we get closer to the Holidays.

3. Maintain Your Health From the Inside & Outside

Don’t worry, I’m not going to go all fitness blogger on you. Mostly because, if you focus on it, you already know what you could be doing to be healthier. Being a Girlboss when it comes to your health means being on top of the sh*t you know you should do because it’s good for you. For example, I tend to get super anxious and overwhelmed. Where old Ter would just let those feelings consume her, Girlboss-version of Ter takes action to remedy those feelings. I journal, meditate, talk to Erick about it, or go and do something like take a shower where I tell myself once I come out of the shower I’m over my pity party and instead am on to tackling what it is that’s making me feel stressed, anxious, and/or overwhelmed.

Also, with the season, we all are overworked. That’s why it’s important to try to:

  • get enough sleep
  • stay hydrated and drink enough water daily
  • work up a sweat a couple of times a week (at least)
  • make time to relax and have self-care
  • make time to be around people that make you happy and do something fun
  • go outside and breathe in the fresh air & vitamin D

All of those things are so simple yet so overlooked this time of year. But, if you try to remember to do them, they’ll really have a big positive impact.

Girlboss Mentality is Everything
