First, A Word About Blogs

If you’re a blogger or someone who already reads blogs, then hearing the word “blog” is normal to you.

If not, there can be a lot of confusion about what it is. Most people assume it’s a place for people to write about all of their feelings, like a diary.

What a Blog Really Is

A blog is technically defined as “a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style.”

Sure, a blog can be like an online journal that no one besides your mom and best friend read. Or maybe it started that way and now tons of people read it because it’s relatable.

But, a blog can also be a business. There are people known as “bloggers” (me) where there job is running their blog and they make a full time income from that blog (lol not me).

Then there’s all types of bloggers that fall somewhere between these two extremes, some of which I read on a regular basis.

Why You Should Read Blogs

To learn, to feel understood, to be entertained, and everything in between! Blogs are awesome because it’s real people being raw and honest about whatever it is you want to know.

Especially if you’re in college (or high school), and on social media we put on our best face and best stories, blogs can sometimes be the truth. For example: on Instagram you’ll see Face-tuned images and zero flaws, but on a blog you’ll get to read about someone dealing with insecurities that social media can cause, and it makes you feel like you’re not alone. That’s just one example, and it’s a more personal one, but blogs aren’t always about feelings.

There are some really good blogs about style, beauty, funny stories, how-to’s, or anything a girl who is trying to figure herself and her life out would want to know, and I rounded up a bunch of them here for you to check out.

Okay, now that today’s lesson is done, onto the list!

The Cosmo for the college world is Her Campus. It was created by college students for college students, and your college may even have it’s own branch of Her Campus. It’s awesome because the articles are written by different journalists/contributors, so there is a huge variety and it’s all relatable. They answer everything and anything, and you could even submit a piece for their online magazine if you wanted. It’s honestly a great online resource for all the tough/awkward/silly questions you have but no one you can ask.

Kalyn is one of the most inspirational influences I’ve ever come across and I’ve followed her for a while now. She actually just redid her blog “Koze” and her aesthetic/vibes/outlook on life is honestly goals. If you want to be inspired, feel good vibes, get good advice, and get in the mood to run towards your biggest dreams then read her blog.

Another girl who will make you want to go and chase after your wildest dreams but in a different way is Indy. She’s relatable, she’s hilarious, and she will make you want to be adventurous. She reminds you that we’re young, we’re growing, and we should be experiencing every last drop of life that this world gives us.

This blog is sort of like a magazine. It’s got an article for everyone, hence their name “The Everygirl.” They post about things from fashion to family, and I personally think they mastered the art of balancing lighthearted articles with heavy topics. It’s sort of like Cosmo meets a lifestyle blog meets a fashion blog, if that makes sense? They truly cover a little bit of everything.

If you’re looking for personal advice, Sam’s blog is really helpful. She’s real and open about personal struggles and self-improvement, but not in a mushy-gushy feelings type of way, but in a straight-forward way. She ends each post with an actionable take-away so that you can move forward with whatever personal goal you have for yourself, which I really like.

Isabel’s writing is personal and makes you feel understood. We’re all just trying to figure everything out, and her blog is all about that. She talks about things that we all feel going through these formative stages of life, and she puts it into words so well.  I 10/10 recommend if you’re looking to sit back and read something casual but still inspiring.

This girl literally spontaneously decided to move from Texas, USA to Heidelberg, Germany without EVER having been to Germany so that she could travel the world. Since I can’t just drop out of school and travel, I’m living vicariously through her. It’s great, 10/10 recommend if you want some wanderlust + travel inspo/vibes/GOALS.

And That’s a Wrap!

Let me know which of these blogs you guys like best, or if there are other blogs you guys love to read.

Thanks for reading. 🙂

Much love, Teresa
