Why I Prefer a Natural Look
First, I just want to throw in a disclaimer that I have no problem with a glam look or a full face of makeup. More power to you if you can do that, especially daily! Personally though, I only like to go all out for big events like dances, proms, parties, etc. Every other day though, I do the same exact natural look, with the exception of maybe a different lip color/product. Why I prefer natural makeup because 1. it’s hard to mess up if I’m using all warm, basic colors and going really quickly to get done in a hurry, and 2. I like to have something on my face that feels light and doesn’t need retouching throughout the day. Ideally I just want to do it and forget about makeup for the rest of the day, and just live my life.
Why I Only Use Drugstore Makeup
Drugstore makeup is fine for me. I buy 90% of my makeup from Target. The other 10% I get from like Walgreens because unfortuantly Target doesn’t have everything I want (still love you tho Target). I will not pay more than $15 for one thing of makeup. I just won’t. I’m a college student who works part time and pays for all her makeup, so you best believe I’m not spending $90 for one little thing. That’ll probably change someday, but for now, it works for me. Also because like I said, I really only use makeup for a natural everyday makeup look. So why would I need to go spending tons of money on one cosmetic item?
Now, that’s my perspective. I have many friends and know of many girls & guys who like to have a full face and love doing makeup! And I love that! It’s just not me. I’m not just the concealer and mascara girl, but I’m not miss full face either – I’m in the middle. But def leans more towards concealer and mascara haha. Which is why I’ve tried lots of drugstore products and have finally created my best everyday natural drugstore makeup look.
Don’t Worry – I’ve Found Products for All Skin Types & Colors!
I hate when makeup lines don’t have something for everyone. We come in all different shapes, sizes, colors, and skin types – and makeup brands should accommodate to us! With that being said, some of the products I use do only come in a limited range of colors which really bothers me. So I tried out other products to find something similar in all colors, so to whoever is reading this, there’s something that works for you. 🙂 But seriously, why can’t every brand be like Fenty and have a huge color range?! One day I hope all other brands step up too. Okay – rant over. Onto the products I use & recommend!
Best Everyday Natural Drugstore Makeup
Let’s go in order of how I do my makeup.
I have 2 different primers that I love for different reasons. Most of the time I use the [amazon_textlink asin=’B0081E6X3U’ text=’Neutrogena Healthy Skin primer ‘ template=’ProductLink’ store=’AKIAJUCN5NJUOY4TCVCA’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’a8b393a6-545e-11e8-9512-fdc615afbf25′](left) because it’s good for the skin and has SPF 15. It keeps my makeup lasting long, but doesn’t blur pores as well as the [amazon_textlink asin=’B00PFCSC6W’ text=’Maybelline Master Prime primer’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’AKIAJUCN5NJUOY4TCVCA’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’b1cf457f-545e-11e8-8102-01af4096211d’] (right). The Maybelline primer has a more matte finish versus the Neutrogena primer which has a more dewy finish. My skin is different at different times of the month, so that also determines which primer I choose.
I almost never wear legit foundation! It makes my face feel heavy and sticky which I hate. Foundation is great for a full-coverage look, but day-to-day I prefer my skin to look like… skin. So I only use the [amazon_textlink asin=’B008C13146′ text=’Maybelline BB Fresh in the shade Light/Medium’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’AKIAJUCN5NJUOY4TCVCA’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’b6c84914-5461-11e8-9e93-1920bd84778d’]. Since I use fake tanner too, this shade works for me even though I’m naturally very pale. This BB Cream does come in shades Light to Medium/Dark, but it doesn’t cover the whole color range unfortunately. If Maybelline doesn’t have your shade, don’t worry! There’s another product that’s just as good and similar: [amazon_textlink asin=’B00LGC11C2′ text=’Black Radiance True Complexion BB Cream. ‘ template=’ProductLink’ store=’AKIAJUCN5NJUOY4TCVCA’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’ca3ac509-5461-11e8-a628-2b9cb27793e0′]Hopefully one day Maybelline realizes they need to expand their color range so every girl can find her color.
If I have a big red zit or red discoloration, I use this [amazon_textlink asin=’B000V54TO2′ text=’Maybelline Cover Stick Concealer in 195 Green.’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’AKIAJUCN5NJUOY4TCVCA’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’d87b24d9-5461-11e8-bab9-47c47d662525′] I actually put this under my foundation, then apply foundation, then apply the [amazon_textlink asin=’B00PD0JOKY’ text=’Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Concealer’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’AKIAJUCN5NJUOY4TCVCA’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’f538a0cc-5461-11e8-b36f-bb858ac9f86f’] in 110/120 Light on top. Some days if my skin is looking clear, I skip the green concealer and just use the Covergirl concealer on my under eyes, eyelids, chin, forehead, and any areas with minor discoloration/acne. Also, if Covergirl doesn’t have your color, [amazon_textlink asin=’B0046VJTX8′ text=’Maybelline Fit Me Concealer’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’AKIAJUCN5NJUOY4TCVCA’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’03c4b0a5-5462-11e8-b646-f3aeb73b77f0′] has deeper shades and is a really similar product that I also used to use! I go back and forth, but I used the Covergirl concealer first so I have a special place in my heart for it.
I use setting powder lightly on anywhere I have acne, under my eyes, eyelids, chin, and forehead area. The powder I use is the [amazon_textlink asin=’B0169YYC4K’ text=’Maybelline® Facestudio® Master Fix™ Setting + Perfecting Loose Powder 10 Translucent ‘ template=’ProductLink’ store=’AKIAJUCN5NJUOY4TCVCA’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’5496150c-5462-11e8-81e3-6bac2ae893d3′]and I just use a big fluffy e.l.f. brush to apply it (brushes are listed later on in post!).
AHH MY FAVORITE THING EVER. I LOVE this blush. The blush is unfortunately not at Target anymore </3 but it’s at Giant, Walmart, online, etc. It’s called the [amazon_textlink asin=’B01ACPZ1KG’ text=’Covergirl truBlend Baked Powder Blush’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’AKIAJUCN5NJUOY4TCVCA’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’61306628-5462-11e8-88bf-7b7b3ddd7639′], and I use the shade “Medium Rose”. It’s a baked blush so it has like hightlighter and bronzer all mixed in with the blush so the color on your face is so natural and adorable. It matches my whole natural look to a T. Did I mention how in love I am with it?
BRONZER, HIGHLIGHT & EYE-SHADOW
Okay, so I don’t use eye-shadow, I just use bronzer/contour powders because they look natural and I love using 1 product for 2 different purposes. The two items pictured above that I use are the [amazon_textlink asin=’B009WI99CQ’ text=’Rimmel Natural Bronzer’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’AKIAJUCN5NJUOY4TCVCA’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’7387d521-5462-11e8-943c-598954315d89′] in the shade “Buff Beige” and the [amazon_textlink asin=’B01D1DRV36′ text=’e.l.f. Contour Palette’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’AKIAJUCN5NJUOY4TCVCA’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’7f81a17a-5462-11e8-831b-090098236e66′] in “Light/Medium”. I use the Rimmel bronzer on eyes for eyeshadow and it looks really natural/is hard to make look bad since it’s light and shiny. I use the lightest shade in the e.l.f. palette as highlight everywhere. Sometimes I contour with the rest of the palette/use bronzer, it just depends on how much time I have and how much blending I feel like doing.
So I’m naturally blonde, which means eyebrows aren’t a big deal to me. I don’t spend too much time on them since overly-done brows on a fair blonde girl just looks… bad. So I just use these [amazon_textlink asin=’B00PZ28V2C’ text=’Covergirl brow pencils’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’AKIAJUCN5NJUOY4TCVCA’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’91f9de70-5462-11e8-b3fc-e781f54219df’] to lightly and quickly fill in the lighter parts, and I use an unused toothbrush actually to brush them out haha. Hey, it works! They’re also good if you want fuller looking brows too! Honestly it’s just a good, standard, brow pencil, and the colors look natural.
My go-to mascara for YEARS has been the [amazon_textlink asin=’B00PFCT2R0′ text=’Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’AKIAJUCN5NJUOY4TCVCA’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’9d9b9f12-5462-11e8-9732-ff839c00b33f’]. I used to use one of the black mascaras, but then I learned that brown is better for blondes, so I’ve been using the brown shade ever since. It’s makes your lashes look so naturally long and thick, not over the top. And the wand is curved like your eye shape which makes it easy to use.
I have a problem with buying too many lipsticks, glosses, and chapsticks… but hear me out. Healthy-looking, hydrated, cute lips just look so good! Like even if I’m wearing no makeup, so long as my lips are nice and glossy, I feel cute. Maybe just me? Anyways, chapsticks I love are the [amazon_textlink asin=’B00F9A1RX0′ text=’Maybelline Baby Lips’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’AKIAJUCN5NJUOY4TCVCA’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’e809bb7a-5462-11e8-af6f-5ded49d49c0f’] because they just work so well and the tubes themselves are adorable. If I’m going for something more than chapstick, I like balmy lipsticks. The three I’m loving right now are these three:
- Maybelline® Color Sensational® Creamy Mattes Lip Color – color 682 Blushing Pout
- Maybelline® Color Sensational® Creamy Mattes Lip Color – 680 Mesmerizing Magenta
- Maybelline® Color Sensational® Creamy Mattes Lip Color – 770 Mauve It
From left to right:
e.l.f. Highlighting Brush – used for setting powder & bronzer.
e.l.f. Blush Brush – used for blush.
e.l.f. Angled Foundation Brush – used for highlighting cheeks, high points of face, and collar bones.
e.l.f. Blending Eye Brush – used for eyeshadow.
e.l.f. Eyeshadow Brush – used for applying brow bone highlight and inner corner highlight on eyes.
e.l.lf. Eye Crease Brush – used if I’m using darker eyeshadow in my crease.
e.l.f. Angled Contour Brush – I sometimes use this to apply a little powder right on top of a zit for extra concealment.
e.l.f. Small Smudged Brush – used to apply a dark brown contour shade to upper water line for “eyeliner” (sometimes).
ITEMS NOT PICTURED:
Well, they’re in the big flatlay image at the beginning of the post but these are additional things I use!
- BEAUTY BLENDER – I just got the Real Techniques one that’s super popular and now I understand why… I love it. Blends so quickly.
- EYELASH CURLER – I don’t even know what brand mine is, it’s so old and cheap. Here’s a similar cheap one – they all do the same thing.
- TOOTHBRUSH – Sounds weird but it’s UNUSED and works in lieu of a brow brush.
And that’s everything! That’s my opinion on the best everyday natural drugstore makeup.
